From the Rector
Trinity Sunday is celebrated
on the Sunday following Pentecost. While
Pentecost is Red, Trinity Sunday’s color is White. The Sunday following Trinity Sunday is the
beginning of the use of the “ordinary” color (green) and green will be used
until the season of Advent. In the Church of England, it is the tradition is to
use the Athanasian Creed in place of the Nicene Creed. This tradition is used in the “high” church. Thomas Becket (1118-70) was consecrated
Archbishop of Canterbury on the Sunday after Whit Sunday (Pentecost) and his
first act was to ordain that the day of his consecration should be held as a new
festival in honor of the Holy Trinity.
This observance spread from Canterbury thoughout the whole of
Christendom. The earliest possible date
for Trinity Sunday is May 17 (in 2008 we celebrate Trinity Sunday on May 18)
and the latest possible date is June 20.
On Trinity Sunday the church rejoices in the impenetrable
mystery that God is three-in-one (Triune), Father, Son and Holy Spirit. How the Lord can be one God in three distinct
persons is completely beyond the ability of any human to understand. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that
Christians accept this incomprehensible mystery as a fundamental article of
faith. From Advent through Pentecost,
the church celebrates with joy and thanksgiving what Father, Son and Holy
Spirit
have done to accomplish the salvation of sinful humanity. During the Season after Pentecost, we focus
on how we as Christians ought to respond to the love that God has shown
us. Trinity Sunday is a transitional day
that bridges these two parts of the liturgical year. Trinity Sunday is a solemn day on which we
praise and adore God both for what He as done for the world and for who He is.

Meet Your Vestries
Each month,
we will be profiling a vestry member from each of the three churches of the
Tri-Parish in the monthly newsletter.
This month’s profiles are: Cynthia
Akins, Trinity Church, Canaseraga; Eva Crosby, St. Peter’s Church, Dansville;
and Tom Jimerson, Christ Church, Hornell.
Cynthia Akins -
Trinity Church, Canaseraga
I was born to Jeanne Shay and Jerry Flint of Canaseraga
in the year ???? (ooops! that would tell my age!). I have been a member of Trinity since my
birth. Trinity is where I was baptized,
attended Sunday school, was confirmed, was a member of the choir, spent my
teenage years, and also was married in 1971.
I have three awesome grown children, Ryan, Jared and Brittany. They have also been members of Trinity since
birth, where they were baptize, attended Sunday school, confirmed and all three
served as acolytes. I have 19
“grandpets”, no grandchildren, yet!
I have had various jobs and the most significant was
working for 11 years at Craig D.D.S.O. with the mentally and physically
challenged. I am currently working at
the Post office in Canaseraga as a Post Master Relief.
I am on the Vestry at Trinity and also served prior
terms. I was also a Sunday school
teacher in the late 1980’s when we actually had several children attending
church! I pray for a revival in our
church, community and nation.
All the praise, honor and glory goes to my heavenly Father
and Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

Eva Crosby - St.
Peter’s Church, Dansville
I’m Eva Crosby, member of St. Peter’s Church,
Dansville. I currently live in Wayland
with my two daughters, Alexandria and Olivia.
I am an Episcopalian originally from Massachusetts. I moved here after serving in the U. S. Navy
for eight years. My mother, Peggy Ann
Glaister, attends Christ Church, and my oldest brother, Todd Haraty and family,
attend Trinity. I work for the Wayland-Cohocton
CSD in special education. My daughters
and I enjoy horseback riding and currently own three horses that we keep at
home.
+ + +
Tom Jimerson - Christ
Church, Hornell
I was born in Elmira, New York, the second youngest in a
family of nine children. Having moved to Hornell at a very early age, I
attended public schools in Hornell and graduated from Hornell High School.
After graduation, during my carefree years, I held a number of jobs in Albany
and elsewhere and attended and graduated from a small business school in
Schenectady, N.Y.. I held positions with a NYS Assemblyman, a NYS Senator, NYS
Constitutional Convention, NYS Department of State, NYS Identification and
Intelligence System, in the field office of Architect Edward Durrell Stone
(State University of NY at Albany), Chemung County Family Court as Court
Reporter and as Secretary to E. James Strates of the James E. Strates Shows (a
traveling carnival consisting of 50+ railroad cars). Being tired of the
traveling life, I returned to Hornell where I met my lovely wife, best friend
and constant companion Susan Kimball. We were married a few years later and
will be celebrating our 38th anniversary in a few months. Our immediate family
consists of our son Kristopher, our daughter Sara Jimerson-Giglio and a
grandson Tommy Jimerson. In 1970 I started work for the Erie Lackawanna Railway
Company, which later became Conrail, as a Personal Injury Claim Agent and other
positions. I was transferred to Binghamton and then to Ohio for about five
years, returning to Hornell in 1977, where I worked until the railroad departed
Hornell in 1989. I then obtained a position with the City of Hornell at City
Hall, where I worked for 15 years until I retired in 2006. WHEW!!
In my spare time I enjoy
carving, boating, lawn work, gardening, antiquing and cruising in my Mustang.
Being a newcomer to Christ
Church and the Episcopalian faith has been a great experience for my wife and
I. We have been attending Christ Church for two years now and became members in
December 2007.
During this time we have
gained many new and wonderful friends and have renewed many old acquaintances.
I feel honored that I have been selected to be a member of the Christ Church
Vestry and the Finance Committee.
I close with this short note:
Fr. Tom has been an inspiration to my wife and I and has helped us tremendously
in our times of need. Thank you Fr. Tom for being there for us.

Bill’s New Apartment
Thanks to everyone who was able to help Bill with
items for his new apartment. He will
move in on April 28 and will be busy settling in. Most of the items on last month’s wish list

with one of these items, please let Bill know, or call the parish office
(324-3620).

Episcopal Youth Event (E.Y.E.) 2008
The 2008 Episcopal Youth Event (E.Y.E.) will be July 8-13, 2008 at
Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas for young people who have just
finished 9th-12th grade this year. E.Y.E. aims to inspire and empower
youth as Christian Apostles. E.Y.E is designed to be an immersion
experience in the baptismal covenant and to extend the mission and
ministry of the Church. Mandated by the General Convention, E.Y.E
is the second largest event in the Episcopal Church and the single
largest youth event in the Episcopal Church. It is attended by some
1,500 young people, adult sponsors, bishops, staff and resource people.
E.Y.E is an opportunity to meet other youth from around the world and
experience the church on a global level. The E.Y.E community
gathers regularly as a large group for worship, program, music, and
fun! Participants also meet daily with a small group. A variety
of other activities, including festivals, forums, workshops,
sports/recreation, and free time round out the schedule.
“Sown in the Heart of Christ”
The E.Y.E. 2008 Design Team discerned this theme from the Eucharistic
lessons appointed for Sunday, July 13, 2008 (Year A, Proper 10). Sown
in the Heart of Christ will provide rich soil for worship, education,
recreation, and service. It will be an event that plants promise and
hope in the hearts of all participants, and bears witness to the world
that the Episcopal Church is yielding abundant fruit. E.Y.E. will
welcome informed theological conversation, honor our Anglican heritage,
and celebrate our common ground in Christ. E.Y.E. will be rooted in the
Baptismal Covenant (our understanding of the heart of Christ) in order
to reaffirm, deepen, and develop the ministries of all participants for
Christian discipleship.
